Thanks to a grant from the South Central Community Foundation and inspiration from Healthy Kids Challenge, we are learning about good nutrition and the importance of healthy movement at the Macksville City Library.
Throughout the month of April, Pre-K and Kindergarten classes will visit the library for special healthy presentations. On April 6th, students learned about the Grains group and sampled different food items from this group. Each week, we will focus on a different category from the food pyramid, learn about serving sizes and sample new foods. We will also read some fun books and incorporate movement into each program. ‘Exercise charades’ was the first activity we tried, and it was a hit with all the kids.
We are also grateful to the Stafford County Health Dept. for lending us their food pyramid and pretend food which demonstrates recommended portion sizes. Keep checking back to see more photos and news of guest speakers.
